ROLE OVERVIEW
As the Sr. Design Manager, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our projects. Your primary responsibility is to lead the thorough review of all design packages, ensuring they meet international Codes and Standards. You will manage and support our talented Senior Engineers and design teams, guiding them through the design process and signing off on their submissions.
Collaboration is key, as you’ll work closely with various stakeholders to foster a culture of design excellence. Additionally, you will help facilitate the smooth transition of team members from design to construction phases, ensuring that everyone is aligned and ready to achieve our project goals.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & ACTIVITIES
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the design process for all projects, from the initial project brief through master planning and detailed design, while closely supervising our Senior Engineers and review teams.
- Conduct comprehensive reviews of all design packages, identifying and resolving any design or constructability issues in collaboration with the Projects design team.
- Leverage your expertise to work with Senior Engineers on an agreed design schedule, ensuring timely and effective reviews that keep the project moving forward.
- Coordinate efforts between Senior Engineers and review teams to adhere to the design schedule and develop contingency plans when necessary.
- Lead the design review team, providing mentorship and guidance to help designers grow and excel in their work.
- Establish clear design guidelines, standards, and codes to ensure compliance with international standards and NEOM’s vision, sharing these with all project stakeholders.
- Address technical and design requirements with both internal teams and external clients, making sure everyone is on the same page.
- Offer technical guidance and logistical support for bids and tenders.
- Sign off on each design stage (Conceptual, 30%, 60%, 90%, and IFC) for the Executive Director, ensuring that each phase is completed before moving to the next.
- Maintain open lines of communication with all stakeholders throughout the design, construction, and commissioning phases, ensuring that designs meet all requirements and deliver exceptional value.
- Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) for design reviews and promote their use across the team.
- Participate in recruiting skilled Engineers and Architects, contributing to building a strong and capable team.

BACKGROUND, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- 10+ years of extensive experience in designing mega, multi-disciplinary projects, with at least 5+ years in a technical lead role.
- A deep understanding of international codes and standards (e.g., IBC, SBC, BS Codes, Euro Code).
- Proven ability to juggle multiple design-related tasks while staying organized and focused.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make effective decisions in a fast-paced environment, along with good knowledge of technology that supports business management.
- A knack for building professional relationships based on trust with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written—with the ability to present ideas confidently to various audiences.
- Proficient in using building design software and Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), with knowledge of Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, and AutoCAD being a plus.
- Given the dynamic nature of NEOM’s start-up environment, a commitment to achieving strategic goals is essential, which may require flexibility in work hours.
- Strong leadership qualities and sound judgment, enabling effective communication at all levels—from the design office to construction sites.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or Engineering from an accredited university
- Master’s degree is preferred.
- Professional registration or accreditation (e.g., MCARB, MRIAI, RIBA, PE, MICE, PMP, SCE).
