Overview

Description:

Aramco energizes the world economy.

Aramco occupies a unique position in the global energy industry. We are the world’s largest producer of hydrocarbons (oil and gas), with the lowest upstream carbon intensity of any major producer.

With our significant investment in technology and infrastructure, we strive to maximize the value of the energy we produce for the world along with a commitment to enhance Aramco’s value to society.

Headquartered in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and with offices around the world, we combine market discipline with a generations’ spanning view of the future, born of our nine decades experience as responsible stewards of the Kingdom’s vast hydrocarbon resources. This responsibility has driven us to deliver significant societal and economic benefits to not just the Kingdom, but also to a vast number of communities, economies, and countries that rely on the vital and reliable energy that we supply.

We are one of the most profitable companies in the world, as well as amongst the top five global companies by market capitalization.

Overview

We are seeking an Exploration Geophysicist to join the Unconventional Exploration Division (UED), with expertise in advancing unconventional exploration programs.

The Unconventional Exploration Division is responsible for the identification and evaluation of Unconventional Resources that fall within the broad spectrum of tight reservoirs to source shale plays within the Kingdom. We bring a new perspective to the Kingdom’s, world-renown, conventional systems with an eye for unconventional opportunities. Integrated subsurface studies initiated by the group, often challenging previous biases, guide our portfolio development and support the proposal of new exploration wells. In addition, the division also compliments existing asset teams with ongoing appraisals and field development plans.

As an Exploration Geophysicist your primary role will be to integrate regional to field-scale studies, interpret seismic data with attention to details, produce reliable structural/attribute maps, which are closely calibrated to well control, and work with multi-disciplinary teams to predict and identify prospective opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

As the successful candidate you will be required to perform the following:

  • Document and share your work through cross sections, maps, cross plots, histograms, and summary tables.
  • May be involved in proposing, defending, and planning exploration wells in collaboration with operations teams and engineers.
  • Effectively communicate with peers and the management team through presentations, technical discussions and written reports.
  • Evaluate current practices and identify opportunities for improvements.
  • Provide recommendations and advise in your particular area of expertise.
  • Emphasizes the importance of well data integration with seismic data and interprets, with a critical eye and attention to details, to generate seismically-derived maps and attributes to guide the exploration effort.
  • Integrates input from core description, seismic interpretation, lab measurements, and logs to guide and refine the geophysical understanding.
  • Extract the structural and stratigraphic architecture of the subsurface. Mapping faults and geologic signatures were possible.
  • Supports and synchronizes with geological correlation efforts, employing the most adequate techniques to further the regional/local framework.

Minimum Requirements

  • As the successful candidate you will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Geophysics or a related science.  An advanced degree is preferred.
  • 15 years of experience in conventional/unconventional exploration is required.
  • Has a good understanding of geophysical methods (Seismic, potential fields, logs) and is aware of their strengths and limitations.
  • Experience in mapping and evaluating Petroleum Systems and plays utilizing sound geoscience techniques.
  • Must be willing to work on broad, regional projects and comfortable with a more focused field-scale study.
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of basin fill processes and their implications on the facies mapping and correlations.
  • Works well with a multi-disciplinary team and is comfortable with an iterative approach that honors input from complementing professionals.
  • Previous experience working with resource assessment and estimation is a plus.

Working environment

Our high-performing employees are drawn by the challenging and rewarding professional, technical and industrial opportunities we offer, and are remunerated accordingly.

At Aramco, our people work on truly world-scale projects, supported by investment in capital and technology that is second to none. And because, as a global energy company, we are faced with addressing some of the world’s biggest technical, logistical and environmental challenges, we invest heavily in talent development.

We have a proud history of educating and training our workforce over many decades. Employees at all levels are encouraged to improve their sector-specific knowledge and competencies through our workforce development programs – one of the largest in the world.
