ROLE OVERVIEW

The Secondary English as an Additional Language Teacher will collaborate within a faculty team to ensure students, for whom English is not their native tongue, are able to engage in learning and access the full curriculum. Within the role, the teacher will support the delivery of a curriculum consistent with the IB MYP/DP frameworks and the MYP/DP Subject Guides, while also ensuring appropriate progression for EAL students across the four language skills. This position supports and implements the learning program in accordance with the guidelines and philosophy of NEOM EC-12 under the supervision and direction of the Programme Coordinator(s) and the Head of School. 

 

 

REQUIREMENTS SUMMARY

Teaching Experience

  • Proven experience as an EAL teacher, preferably within an IB MYP and DP framework.

 

Knowledge of Language Learning

  • In-depth understanding of the specific needs and challenges of EAL students within an international setting.
  • Ability to develop language skills appropriate to age, stage, and curriculum needs, in an accessible manner.

 

Collaboration and Communication

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills for effective teamwork.
  • Experience working with diverse learning needs and creating or supporting an inclusive classroom environment.

 

Curriculum Development

  • Expertise in curriculum development, preferably based on the IB MYP and DP frameworks.

 

Assessment and Reporting

  • Proficient in developing and administering assessments; ability to report on student progress across the four language skills.
  • Proficient in using appropriate tools and frameworks to track progress of EAL students.

 

Professional Development and Adaptability:

  • Commitment to continuous professional development and staying updated on education trends.
  • Adaptability to integrate new teaching methodologies and approaches.

 

 

ROLE COMPETENCIES & ACTIVITIES

The EAL teacher’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

 

Curriculum Delivery

  • Support students to access the wider school curriculum.
  • In some instances, develop and implement specifc lessons aligned with the language development pathways and MYP and DP frameworks.
  • Develop personalized pathways for students, providing clear milestones towards increased, or full, curriculum access.

 

Differentiated Instruction

  • Tailor teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning needs, ensuring an inclusive classroom environment.
  • Encourage a variety of activities and applications of language skills.

 

Inquiry-Based Learning

  • Facilitate language development to support inquiry-based learning experiences.

 

Assessment and Feedback

  • Develop and administer assessments to gauge student understanding and progress within the English language.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to support students in enhancing their language skills.

 

Collaboration

  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate interdisciplinary approaches and create a cohesive learning experience.
  • Foster positive relationships with other DP and MYP teachers, contributing to cross-subject connections.

 

Professional Development

  • Stay updated on subject related advancements, teaching methodologies, and curriculum developments.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills.

 

Parent and Community Engagement

  • Communicate with parents regarding student progress.

 

Other Duties

  • Duty of care and supervision within the school campus.
  • Offering of Extra Curricular Activities and support for Student Enrichment Experiences.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

  • Experience teaching EAL, preferably within the (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programmes (DP) is preferred
  • Experience teaching EAL within recognized international curricula , within high-performing schools, is mandatory

 

Qualifications

  • Relevant Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree.
