ROLE OVERVIEW

The Corporate Sustainability & ESG Manager will play a crucial role with the development and successful rollout of NEOM’s comprehensive Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy and framework. This role requires a deep understanding of ESG principles and best practices, strong project management skills, and the ability to develop and implement this framework across all sectors and regions of NEOM.

The ideal candidate will be a highly organized and results-oriented individual with a strong analytical and problem-solving mindset, capable of navigating complex projects and ensuring the effective integration of ESG considerations into all aspects of NEOM’s operations.

REQUIREMENTS SUMMARY

  • Deep understanding of ESG principles: This includes environmental (climate change, pollution, resource depletion), social (human rights, labor practices, corporate social responsibility), and governance (anti-corruption, board diversity, ethical conduct) issues.
  • Solid knowledge of ESG standards and frameworks and tools, particularly GRI, ISSB, SASB. Other relevant frameworks: UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) a plus.
  • Experience with ESG data collection, analysis, and reporting software
  • Understanding of financial institutions/investor requirements and iFC performance standards
  • Expertise in KPI development, monitoring, and analysis for strategic alignment.
  • Effective risk identification and mitigation skills with experience in identifying, assessing, and mitigating ESG-related risks (e.g., reputational, regulatory, financial).
  • Ability to manage multiple ESG projects and initiatives effectively, ensuring timely completion and adherence to budgets.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with a proven ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Uphold ethical standards in all stakeholder interactions and communications.

ROLE COMPETENCIES & ACTIVITIES

The Corporate ESG/Sustainability Manager’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

Program Management

  • Support the development and implementation of program management methodologies, tools, and systems for tracking ESG initiatives.
  • Oversee the implementation of ESG initiatives across all sectors and regions of NEOM.
  • Provide guidance and support on program implementation.
  • Monitor and track the performance of strategic ESG initiatives and projects, proactively identifying trends, deviations, and potential issues.

Strategy and Development

  • Support the development and implementation of NEOM’s ESG strategy, aligning with global best practices and industry standards (e.g., GRI, ISSB, SASB, UN SDGs, IFC Performance Standards etc).
  • Conduct ESG assessments and materiality assessments to identify key ESG risks, opportunities and impacts for NEOM.

ESG Reporting and communications

  • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and monitor progress on ESG targets and goals.
  • Support the preparation and publication of ESG reports
  • Address queries from third parties about the ESG program (investor/financial institutions, PIF, regulatory bodies)

Stakeholder Relations

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders involved in NEOM’s ESG efforts, including regulatory bodies, suppliers, investors, and customers.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, reports, and other communication materials tailored to stakeholder needs, ensuring clear and transparent communication on ESG progress.
  • Ensure that all stakeholder engagement activities comply with the relevant regulations and ethical standards.

Risk Management

  • Support the identification, assessment, and prioritization of ESG risks across the organization.  
  • Oversee the development and implementation strategies to mitigate or manage ESG risks.  
  • Monitor and report on ESG performance, including the effectiveness of risk mitigation strategies.  
  • Proactively flag risks and bottlenecks (including internal improvement opportunities for NEOM), and work with relevant stakeholders to develop and implement resolution strategies for minor project risks.

Leadership

  • Prepare and deliver presentations, reports, and other communication materials tailored to stakeholder needs.
  • Ensure that all stakeholder engagement activities comply with the relevant regulations and ethical standards.
  • Utilize data analytics to drive strategies and decisions.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • 7+ years of relevant work experience in the sustainability/ESG field, with a minimum of 3+ year in a managerial role.
  • Strong understanding of ESG principles and best practices including knowledge of relevant sustainability standards and frameworks (e.g., GRI, ISSB, SASB, UN SDGs, IFC Performance Standards).
  • Proven ability to manage projects and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to identify risks and bottlenecks in strategy execution and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using ESG reporting software and tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Team player with a collaborative approach.
  • Strong ethical and moral compass

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Professional certifications in ESG/Sustainability are a plus.
