ROLE OVERVIEW
|
We are looking for a Manager – Transmission Engineering & Design that:
- will provide long term leadership of the transmission engineering and design of ENOWA equipment (525kV HVDC, 380kV & 132kV EHVAC) and below) for use in design and construction of ENOWA assets.
- will develop and manage:
substation primary and secondary equipment (protection, control and communications) specifications
underground cables
overhead transmission line
- for use by all parties involved with designing and constructing the ENOWA transmission network and supporting delivery of related projects
- will have technical and management skills to lead and develop a team of professional and technical staff and/or manage external consulting resources to meet ENOWA Grid objectives and workplans.
- will research, innovate, design, select equipment and determine cost & risk based recommendations for the ongoing functioning of the grid.
- will support, guide and partner with other branches of ENOWA to ensure effective engineering, design and safety outcomes are realized through sound asset management practices.
The potential candidate should have proven experience in management and establishment of design and construction standards for electrical EHV automated distribution systems including operations and maintenance aspects, preferably with high proportion of renewable energy resources involved.
Demonstrated experience and commitment to grid innovation and practical implementation is paramount since both will form part of successfully delivering a stable, cost effective distribution grid based on 100% renewable power.
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, a focus on efficiency, and enhanced multitasking abilities, combined with a “can-do” mentality are essential.
The role will support the Director Engineering and Project Delivery – Transmission and is based in NEOM Base Camp (North-West Saudi-Arabia).

ROLE COMPETENCIES & ACTIVITIES
The Manager – Transmission Engineering & Design responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Specialist knowledge of electrical transmission grid infrastructure and associated design, construction and maintenance requirements.
- Develop equipment specifications and standard equipment designs allowing innovative solutions and modelling of the transmission grid as an interactive, AI managed optimization platform at the lowest cost.
- Support NEOM’s energy efficiency strategy, 100% renewable grid and R&D projects.
- Support the technical and commercial evaluation of offers and manage relationships with equipment manufacturers and suppliers.
- Developed innovative engineering design standards and specifications to enable:
- Optimisation of physical footprint and spatially allocation of transmission assets
- Increasing the capacity of existing transmission assets via real time monitoring
- Deployment of new environmentally compliant switchgear like ester oil transformers and SF6 free switchgear
- Secondary systems implementation of full digital substation (using IEC61850) with the aim of spatial optimisation
- ‘Camouflage’ or ‘beautification’ of transmission assets into the natural surrounding environment and aligned with sustainability objectives.
- Enable fast deployment of substations by working with the OEM(s) and their supply chain to prepare specifications for modular substations
- Strong engineering design and commercial acumen with respect to establishing and management of engineering framework agreements
- Participation in strategic planning and asset management replacement and maintenance strategies at a business, group and team level.
- Support delivery of the company’s engineering risk management plan in conjunction with other Grid teams.
- Create and transfer knowledge of current and emerging technologies within Engineering and Project Delivery – Transmission as well as across relevant engineering disciplines within NEOM. This includes the provision of subject matter expertise knowledge to assist in the implementation of design and construction requirements.
- Lead, develop and take personal responsibility to drive high level of health and safety performance by clearly articulating the requirements required for safety in design and construction methodologies relating to the Transmission network.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Solid background in successfully developing, leading and executing EHV power system transmission standards.
- Deep understanding of primary and secondary systems for transmission substations with solid understanding of associated mechanical and civil/structural aspects as well.
- Solid understanding of transmission overhead line design/layout and underground cable design/layout
- Passion and deep-seeded interest to be part of the Grid Engineering and Project Delivery team to set up a 100% renewable based energy system from inception and play one of key roles in bringing NEOM’s vision to life
- Proven track record of delivering outcomes with strong ability to prioritize tasks in a highly dynamic and changing environment
- Solid commercial acumen
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, supporting a collaborative “can-do” mentality
- Strong innovation drive towards automated and AI led platform technologies
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Electrical Engineering
- MBA is preferred
- 15+ years of experience in transmission engineering relating to design, construction and maintenance of transmission power grids.
