ROLE OVERVIEW

The Planning Lead is responsible for managing vessel planning for both terminals. Responsible for the shift they run, they will ensure day-to-day execution runs to plan, if it doesn’t, they will ensure the shift manager for execution reports the reasons. They will escalate any issues that need higher authority decisions. Ensure handover to the next shift is completed correctly. On weekends and night shifts there will be the main point of contact with stakeholders, they are to keep the yard up to date and any berth changes.

ROLE COMPETENCIES & ACTIVITIES

The Planning Shift Lead responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

 

Project Management

  • Manage daily operations in all cargo operations, including but not limited to operations efficiency, safety monitoring, resource deployment and team leading but not limited to cargo information validation, EDI handling, stowage planning, resource deployment and real time operations monitoring
  • Ensures that all operations personnel receive suitable training in relevant equipment operation, lifting and rigging operations and work procedures.
  • Train and develop planning team to KSA and international standards and achieve set KPI together in the coming expansion
  •  Lead planning operations according to Neom operating principles of the business and relationships with customers, government entities and port stakeholders
  • Participate in developing customer agreements and take responsibility for the execution and maintenance of agreed service levels
  • Collaborate with management to develop systems to improve performance and productivity to drive down costs.
  • Hold the execution team accountable to the plan.
  • Ensure correct resources/equipment are deployed on a shift-by-shift basis.
  • identify innovation solutions for containerization and non-containerized operations for testing in live environment.
  • Ensure all KPI’s are met and drive the planning shift to success.
  • Report any issues that may arise.
  • Ensure all shift handover reports are correctly passed on and ensure all data from the shift is correct.
  • Ensure policies and procedures for safety, environment, and security compliance of all related activity areas
  • Communicate employee performance issues including training, appraisals, discipline, and grievances to the Planning and Project manager.
  • Actively collaborate with peers in other port workstreams to deliver the best possible service delivery solutions.
  • Contribute to and develop relationships with all shipping lines, agencies, and all related port users
  • Handle exceptions and attend to emergencies during shift duty.
  • To accomplish ad-hoc tasks when required.
  • Close monitoring of the yard during the discharge to ensure that all the containers received from the vessel have been confirmed with a yard position.
  • Prepare the daily yard work plans related to discharges, receiving exports, housekeeping etc.
  • Responsible for ensuring that a solid plan is in place for the daily yard operations to run in a productive and efficient manner.
  • Monitor yard operations to guarantee smooth flow from the yard to the vessel while keeping unproductive moves to a minimum.
  • Coordinate and align empty equipment nomination for shipment as per customer requirements

  • Prepare and deliver presentations, reports, and other communication materials tailored to stakeholder needs.
  • Ensure that all stakeholder engagement activities comply with the relevant regulations and ethical standards.
  • Utilize data analytics to drive strategies and decisions.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the general cargo/bulk and port industry with 5 years of managerial/supervisory experience.
  • The position requires a professional standard of knowledge to lead teams through functional/general expertise in GC and container operations.
  • Solid understanding of the container and general cargo industry, an ability to relate with shipping company and other parties in the GCC region is a plus.
  • Proven experience in safety, cost, and productivity improvement as well as design and implementation of new operation procedure for continuous improvement.
  • Able to work round the clock and respond to emergencies/exceptions at any time.
  • Experience in GC and container operations automation is highly preferrable.
  • Experience in containers, Bulk, Breakbulk & General Cargo TOS usage and implementation is a plus.
  • Fundamental process development, project management skills.
  • Have good command of both written and spoken English.

 
     Qualifications

  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree.
  • Preferable technical college or university degree in port or related logistics or a marine qualification such as Master or Chief Officer of an ocean-going vessel.
